Being spammed by Online Bingo Sites?
You finally have 15 minutes of free time to sit down at your computer and read your email. You click on email and start to load all your incoming emails. 10 minutes later, the email is still coming in. Finally, after 12 minutes, your email has stopped coming in. You have 999 emails to be read. WHAT???? I don’t have 999 friends. How come so much email? You have been spammed!!
What is spamming you ask. Spam emails are generated from people that acquire a database of email addresses with which they use primarily for advertising and marketing purposes. Often times, these databases are purchased from companies whose sole purpose is to generate lists of email addresses with common interests. In this article, I hope to help you learn how to keep your email address private when registering online for certain products and even online gaming or bingo.
Most online bingo sites are sworn to keep your email address and personal information private. They have sworn that your information is secure and will never be sold. When registering to play bingo, be sure to look for these words. If you do not see them, do not give your personal email address. Use a free based email address such as hotmail or yahoo that you will not use on a daily basis. Often times, the free based email servers will pool all your bingo mailings into a JUNK folder anyhow. The only thing to note is that if you do wish receive mailings from a particular bingo site such as newsletters and promotional information, be sure to provide an email address that you will use and check often. Also, be sure that your filters within your email server will allow mailings from the bingo site.
Another type of spam that some online bingo sites and gaming sites will use is to advertise for any of their affiliates. Often times you will check your email to find offers to join casinos or bingo sites that you did not register with. These offers are typically coming from bingo sites or gaming sites within the network of a bingo site that you recently registered for.
Sometimes a bingo or casino player will register with online gaming or bingo sites that promote for numerous sites. These sites are usually biased to those that will pay them for leading traffic to their sites. The traffic builder sites will run promotions for free cash or prizes for contests at their site. By doing this, the register will require an email address from you. Once you type in the email address, beware. You have been spammed. The site will then send you numerous emails promoting any site that has paid them to direct traffic to you, the bingo or gaming player.
In order to prevent any or all of the above, a player has a couple of options. First, be sure to have a web-based email account such as hotmail or yahoo registered. You can use this type of email address to sign up at contest sites or sites that you feel are not offering the security of your email address. Secondly, if you find a bingo site or casino site with which you would like to be sure to receive newsletters and promotional offers, be sure to register the email address with which you will often check. Often times, most online bingo or casino sites will offer you the chance to “opt-out” of future mailings. If you choose to “opt-out” your email address will be removed from their database. This is often used when a gamer has decided that they wish to no longer play at a particular site and are no longer interested in receiving future mailings.
In short, beware. Do not give your personal email address unless you feel 100% secure in giving it. Look for the fine print. Make sure that your email address secure. If you are still interested in joining, use a web-based email account for their mailings. Good luck and stay safe.
